WhatsApp Business onboarding guidelines and usage

Requirements

The phone number for your business must be a valid phone number which meets the following criteria:

  • Owned by you

  • Has a country and area code, such as landline and cell numbers

  • Able to receive voice calls or SMS

  • Not a short code

  • Not previously used with the WhatsApp Business Platform

Steps to onboard phone number for WhatsApp Business account

  1. Ensure the phone number is neither used on WhatsApp Messenger nor the WhatsApp Business App, reach out to neetoChat support through Chat support or [email protected] onboarding the phone number to be used with WhatsApp Integration.

  2. If the Facebook Business account is available, the team will provide access to the Whatsapp Business platform portal for the onboarded number at https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/phone-number. Otherwise, the neetoChat team will assist in connecting the WhatsApp Integration.

Onboarding a phone number is required to enable the receival of messages from WhatsApp

users, and proper functioning of neetoChat Whatsapp Integration

Navigate to the Meta App that is set-up for WhatsApp by going to developers.facebook.com > My Apps > Select your App.

If the phone number is currently registered with WhatsApp Messenger or the WhatsApp Business App, it needs to be deleted first. See Migrate an Existing WhatsApp Number to a Business Account.

Migrate an Existing WhatsApp Number to a Business Account

You can use a phone number that is already registered with the WhatsApp Messenger or the WhatsApp Business App. Remember to back up your chat history from the WhatsApp Business App. These are guides on how to do so for Android or iOS.

Once a phone number is migrated to the WhatsApp Business Platform, it cannot be used on the WhatsApp Business App concurrently. The number must be used either on the Business Platform or on the Business App.

To migrate a number, you must first delete the WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business App account.

  1. Open WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business app on your Android or iPhone

  2. Navigate to Settings > Account

  3. Select Delete my account. Messages sent to this phone number will be queued in the meantime

  4. Follow the steps to delete the WhatsApp account for that phone number. It may take up to 3 minutes for the disconnected number to become available

Troubleshooting Business onboarding issues and account restrictions

An onboarded WhatsApp business account can be flagged by Facebook due to insufficient admin or business details. In case the account is restricted the onboarding can not be completed and gets blocked on adding a Facebook page for the business.

In case the business is unable to add the page the business admin can go through https://business.facebook.com/business-support-home/ and check for any restriction issue raised by Meta. On raising a request for review, the access can be reinstated given the admin adds a valid personal or business ID.
